Tree Inventory

Identify, Count & Track Your Property’s Greatest Assets

Tree inventories are useful to obtain information about your trees above and beyond the basics. Inventories are meant to aid in the long-term management of your trees, survey what is present on a site, and can be catered to your specific goals.

Tree Inventory Dimensions

Tree trunks wrapped with orange tape and labeled with a round, silver tag.

A typical inventory will include some (or all) of the below attributes, complied in a spreadsheet:

  • unique tree ID# for each tree

  • tree species

  • tree size (recorded as DBH, at 4.5 ft)

  • tree location on property

  • tree health and/or hazard rating

  • specific tree recommendation

  • additional notes, as appropriate

Each tree that falls into the agreed upon size threshold for the inventory will receive a tree tag and unique ID# that corresponds to the spreadsheet attributes. Aerial maps with labeled tree location can also be provided, as can professional reports outlining the findings.

Why Inventory Your Trees?

Tree inventories are especially useful for:

  • new construction projects (homes, utility, etc.)

  • properties managing their trees or woodlots for timber production

  • condo/townhome associations budgeting for tree care

  • properties with tree disease detection or monitoring needs

  • larger properties needing to establish pruning or removal rotational plans (ex. 3-5 year pruning plans)

Follow-up inventories are sometimes recommended every 1-5 years, depending the project goals.
