Frequently Asked Questions

Are your treatments guaranteed to work?

In short, no. Unfortunately, like medical doctors, not every “patient” responds the same to treatment, and there can be compounding factors which make trees higher risk (think soil compaction, limited root zone, secondary pests etc.).

We will, however, work with you to identify trees that are likely to respond well to treatment, assess potential compounding factors predisposing your tree to decline or disease (and mitigation methods to address those as well), and go over expected treatment outcomes and time frames. Our treatment recommendations are based on science and the most current treatment protocols in the field, giving us high success rates.

Can you tell me about your tree care experience?

Innovative Tree Care Specialists has been serving the Madison and surrounding area since 2017. The owner, and ITCS’s consulting arborist, has been in the field of arboriculture since 2011, a certified arborist since 2012, and a licensed applicator since 2013.

What are your payment terms?

We do not require any prepayments or deposits for our services. All work is invoiced, upon completion, with NET 30 payment terms. We currently only accept check or cash for payment, though in 2022 will be offering a credit card payment option for those interested (with a 3% surcharge). All that we require for service booking is a copy of the proposal, signed and returned.

What happens when trees are due for treatment again?

When you tree is due for retreatment, you will receive a renewal letter from our office without prompting. If anything changes in the health of your tree in the meantime, we are always happy to stop out and conduct a health assessment prior.

How long will I need to treat my tree?  Forever?

Different tree conditions have different treatment protocols. In some instances, treatment may be required annually (or multiple times annually) to keep your tree healthy. Other conditions may be treated on an “as needed” basis and may only need to be treated once for the desired results. Our arborist will go over the treatment protocol with you, and clearly state treatment time frames and expectations in the proposal.

Are you fully insured?

Yes, absolutely!  For your protection we carry full liability insurance and workman’s comp. Copies of our insurance coverage can be issued per your request.

When is the best time to treat trees?

The best time to treat your tree is dependent on the condition for which we are treating. Generally speaking, spring is the best time for preventatively treating for foliar disease, and later spring (after leaf out) is the best time for systemic injections (though these can be done throughout the growing season). Some treatments may be based on growing degree day models to best maximize treatment efficacy, while others may be conducted anytime from ground thaw to ground freeze. Our arborist will advise you on the best time to treat your tree, and this will all be clearly spelled out in our proposals.

Are your treatments environmentally friendly?

Any time we put something into the environment, that was not there previously, we have made an environmental impact (whether negative or positive). We base all of our tree health treatment and management plans on protocols that minimize negative impacts to the environment. This commonly will include delaying a treatment until insect pollinators are less likely to be present, or by focusing on other chemical-free ways to improve tree health. When needed, our chemical treatments are recommended responsibly and only for the time frame that they are required.

I have a large tree that needs removal.  Can you do that too?

While we do not currently offer large tree removal services, we do work closely with other companies that do. We are more than happy to make referrals, to companies that we know and trust, for your tree removal and/or stump grinding needs.

How much do treatments cost?

This is a loaded question, but one worth addressing. Tree treatments can range from $65.00 on up. We base our treatment costs on a number of factors including tree size, tree species, products/chemicals needed, and approximate time it will take to complete a project. Generally speaking, a medium-sized tree treatment (say 20.0” diameter) typically will run a couple of hundred dollars. It is worth noting that some of our treatments only need to be reapplied every 2 or 3 years, and the per/year cost is less than it may seem.
